COST
Florida is notorious for its high cost for inmate execution. From 1973 to 1988, the average cost per execution was 3.2 million dollars. During this point in time, 18 executions took place in the state of Florida. This cost an approximate total of 57 million dollars. Life in prison would be one-sixth as expensive as this amount. As of 2000, the average amount per execution has not doubled, not tripled, but octupled to 24 million dollars. Our state would save a total of 51 million dollars a year with life in prison without parole. Instead of abolishing the inhumane act, the governor of Florida, Rick Scott, recently signed a slightly disturbing bill to save money. Entitled, the "Timely Justice Act", the time for death row inmates to executed would be accelerate greatly. It demands that Scott signs a death warrant within a 30 day window and schedules an execution date within 180 days.
